Roy Maurice Mayorga (born April 6, 1970 in New York City, New York) is an American musician, best known as the drummer for the American hard rock band Stone Sour. He is of Ecuadorian and Cuban descent.
Roy Mayorga was the original drummer for metal band Soulfly 1997-1999. Prior to joining Soulfly, he also played with New York Hardcore band Shelter in 1996. He also played drums for one of the most influential political bands from New York in the late 80s/early 90s, Nausea. Also Nausea was the band he did his first proper tour of Europe and U.S. and recorded his first album with in 1989 following. Mayorga played drums on the album 'The Hollowing' with metal band Crisis in 1996.
He was briefly a member of the band Medication from 1999–2001, when he left the group to rejoin Soulfly with which he recorded 3 and toured with them soon after. He parted ways with the group in 2003.
In 2004 he helped create rock band ABLOOM as with vocalist Jasan Radford and lead guitarist Levon Sultanian. Also part of the band was Mike Doling (Snot, Soulfly) and John Fahnestock (Snot). Fahnestock left and was replaced by Marcelo Dias aka Marcello D. Rapp (Soulfly). The band is currently on hiatus but are looking to start up again in the near future.
In 2005 he appeared as one of the drummers on the Roadrunner United compilation CD, The All-Star Sessions, playing on "The Enemy", "The End" and "Baptized in the Redemption", all tracks being produced and musically written by Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares and Roy Mayorga. "The End" spawned a music video.
On another note Roy Mayorga also does classical film scoring. He has worked on films such as Legion (2004) and Shudder (2007) and when not on the road touring and is currently working on a solo record of that nature. Mayorga temporarily filled in behind the drumkit for Sepultura's 2006 European tour with In Flames following Igor Cavalera's absence.
He officially joined Stone Sour on May 10, 2006 as a replacement for Joel Ekman. He drummed for their second release, Come What(ever) May, released August 1. Roy is endorsed by DW (Drum Workshop), Evans, Pro-Mark, PureSound and was endorsed by Zildjian Cymbals but it can be seen in recent videos that he now uses Sabian.
He is the currently the drummer in Stone Sour and recently told Music Feeds TV that he has finally found his home.
In October 2013, the Belgian metal band Channel Zero announced that following the death of their drummer Phil Baheux, Roy will play the drums on their upcoming album.
