New TOOL is on the way (links)

We have heard TOOL has been working on their new 5th full length album since the end of the Winter Tour, Feb 2012. The band's webmaster posted this statement:
Wanting to open some presents are you? Well, as I’ve already announced on this very website, TOOL will be performing at OZZFEST in JAPAN in MAY of 2013. If you can’t make that show, there MIGHT be another gift or two under the tree – things unnoticed amongst the torn wrapping paper, ribbons and empty boxes. My best guess is that these ‘presents’ won’t be opened until after the holidays – knowing just how important it is to take your evergreen decorations down by January 5th. Though not on the 2012 reindeer-propelled sleigh, there are a couple of other Tool projects on the horizon that I am privy to, but, unfortunately, can’t comment on any further at this time… as was requested by the band’s management (Bah humbug with a British accent!).

Something that might be encouraging to some TOOL enthusiasts is that while riding with Danny to Chili John’s yesterday, I heard a lot of new Tool music (sans Maynard). This was the most new material that I’ve heard so far, although a few of the riffs and arrangements were familiar. So, what did I think? Dare I say that it sounded like… TOOL (some of it reminiscent to earlier TOOL stuff, with other parts pushing the envelope), and I assume that it will sound even more like TOOL once the vocal melodies, etc. have been added. To answer your next question, I cannot say how far along in the writing process the band is. If I had to GUESS, I would say more than half way (and keep in mind that in the past, at least, the writing went faster once the first few [more complex] songs were finished).

Sounds encouraging. Stay tuned for the latest about what is sure to be a mind-blowing masterpiece, coming sometime in 2013.

New ALICE IN CHAINS (video)

ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Guitar World earlier this month the new album is complete! And now we get to hear the first track released, "Hollow".

 from the band:
Two weeks ago, Alice In Chains began posting the lyrics from their brand new song, "Hollow" to @aliceinchains on Instagram, asking you, the fans to create an image inspired by or featuring a word or phrase from the lyrics. Fans from around the world took to Instagram, sharing their photo interpretations of each lyrical phrase. Here is the lyric video that includes your Instagram photo submissions:

Expect an early 2013 release.

This is only the second album without original vocalist, Layne Staley. 2009's Black Gives Way to Blue featured 3 rock radio smashes, including "Check My Brain"

"In my opinion, that record stood up to anything else we’ve put out in our career," Cantrell says. "And this new one is right up there as well."

Bassist Mike Inez, drummer Sean Kinney, vocalist/guitarist William DuVall and Cantrell recently wrapped up the recording sessions for the new album with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) and engineer Paul Figueroa.

BARONESS is back after bus accident (video)

Savannah, GA rockers BARONESS are ready to come back!

BARONESS suffered a serious bus crash in August, after which all plans to tour for the new album, Yellow & Green, had to be cancelled.

From the band the day after the accident, August 16, 2012:

The band members of Baroness and their crew are recovering from injuries sustained after their tour bus crashed outside of Bath, England early on Wednesday morning.
John Baizley has broken his left arm and left leg. Allen Blickle and Matt Maggioni each suffered fractured vertebrae. All three remain in the hospital as of this writing. Pete Adams has been treated and released from the hospital.
Three of the five crew members who were on the bus have also been treated and released. One member is still undergoing testing. The driver of the bus remains in critical condition.
Please stay tuned for further updates. Thank you for all the support during this extremely difficult time.
band photo August 20, 2012

Little has been heard during their recovery, until now...

Frontman John Baizley issued this statement last night:

Simply put: it’s time to get back to it. Since my belated and thankful return to the USA (after our painful test in motorcoach-aeronautics) i can definitively say i’ve exhausted my reserve of potential leisure activities (there’s not that many of them, after all). in recent weeks, i’ve come dreadfully close to boredom, and in those moments i can’t help but focus on my glaring physical infirmities. television offers little respite from this relative stasis; i’m sure by now i have sampled every biker-meth-dealer-zombie-low-talking-cop-crime-scene-serial-killer-real-housewife soap opera that is currently being broadcast (and there’s no small number of them). i’ve tried to fill my weekly routine with as much physical therapy as possible but the truth is, PT is not fun, and its benefits come with a great deal of mental/physical/spiritual pain and struggle. furthermore, i believe am getting a touch of Stockholm syndrome when it comes to my doctors and therapists (the highlight of my week should NOT involve a clinic). music might be the best therapy i have right now. perhaps it’s both the cause and the cure (the thought has crossed my mind); but i feel lost without it. Pete and i have just spent a long week surveying our musical wreckage and, surprisingly, we are quite well and intact. sure, there’s some substantial obstacles to overcome before we write, record or perform any time soon; but we still have everything we need to get “back in” that particular “saddle again”. Most of my peers are familiar with such high-school-gym-teacher poeticisms as “risk equals reward” and “no pain, no gain”; but did any of us every really believe there was any real wisdom in those adolescent platitudes? i didn’t. i am, however, starting to understand the essence of these and many of our other favorite cliches.

as odd as it might be for me to write these “updates” after 10 years of personal silence on the internet, i feel that i owe everyone who’s voiced or given their support to Baroness a brief synopsis of our situation and more importantly a heartfelt thanks. honestly, it has made this ordeal much easier on me. what little publicity that surrounds our crash has given voice to so many people who have shared their own stories of injury, trauma and struggle with us, and has furthered my own faith in the communicative and universal strength of music. as every singer on every stage has nightly said, “we wouldn’t be where we are without you.” thanks everyone. we look forward to seeing you soon. here’s a short clip of a song we wrote.

Pearl Welder Tour Select drum kit via eBay

He says: "This drum kit was custom made for me to use on KAMELOT's 2012 U.S. tour while opening up for NIGHTWISH. I would love to hang on to it but I have so many kits at this time and room is running out. The drums are all Pearl with a metal wrap that's about a quarter of an inch away from the shell. The lugs are custom free floating lugs made by Wac'd drums. I am only selling the shell pack. So you will not get any cymbals, stands, seat, pedals, or snare drum. The drums come as listed."

"I will be happy to sign any or all the drums and a portion of the proceeds will go to ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation)."

RUSH finally makes into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame (links)

According to RollingStone.com, The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has officially announced next year's inductees: Canadian rock legends RUSH, PUBLIC ENEMY, HEART, Randy Newman, Donna Summer and Albert King will all join the class of 2013, with Summer, who passed away this May, and King, who died in 1992, earning the honor posthumously. Lou Adler and Quincy Jones will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

"It's a terrific honor and we'll show up smiling," RUSH's singer and bassist, Geddy Lee, tells RollingStone.com. "It made my mom happy, so that's worth it." Lee is especially happy for RUSH's army of hardcore fans. "It was a cause they championed," he says. "I'm very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure."

RUSH has been eligible for the honor since 1999, 25 years after the release of the band's self-titled debut album.
"I never really cared if it happened or not, to be honest with you," RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson told the Canadian Press. "It doesn't change anybody's life at the end of the day. Are we going to become more popular? Are we going to sell more records? Are more people going to come to the shows? I don't know. We're quite happy where we are and with what we've accomplished.

"So we continue to do the kind of work we want to do and we will continue regardless of our induction or not," he added. "I think at the end of the day, really, what this is about is making our fans feel like their support has been worthy."

"If there's one band in the history of rock music that's deserved the acknowledgment of getting into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, it's RUSH," said Sam Dunn, co-director of the 2010 Grammy-nominated documentary "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage". "Here's a band that has been making creative and unique music for over 40 years now, has a massive fanbase around the world ... (and) they continue to be one of the best live bands on the planet.

"I think there's a bunch of good reasons why they deserve this achievement."

According to Lifeson, the Rock Hall induction would pale in comparison to the band's having received one of the prestigious Governor General's Performing Arts Awards for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in March, the highest honor bestowed on artists by the Canadian government.

"The acknowledgement we got from the Canadian government, and by extension Canadians, is very dear to us," Lifeson said. "The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is more a popularity contest."

The April 18, 2013 event is set for Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, marking the first time the ceremony will be held in the city since 1993. HBO will tape the show for broadcast at a later date.

YES will perform three full albums on 2013 tour (links)

YES To Present Triple-Header Concert Tour In 2013, Performing Three Classic Albums In Their Entirety In One Evening

In a career first, iconic and Grammy-winning rock band YES will perform three of their classic albums in their entirety, all in one concert, on a special tour in 2013: 1971’s The Yes Album, 1972’s Close To The Edge and 1977’s Going For The One. Music audiences will experience the albums, each representing an important milestone in YES’ career, performed from beginning to end.

The multi-platinum progressive rock band - bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes and singer Jon Davison - will kick off the North American tour March 1st and conclude April 12th in Detroit.

After starting in West Wendover, Nevada, the historic trek continues down the West Coast including stops in Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles before heading east for shows in New York, Toronto, Detroit and more. See the full itinerary below.

The tour will mark the first time since 1973 that YES - who have sold close to 50 million albums worldwide - have performed an album onstage in its entirety.

Steve Howe says, “These albums we all easily agreed on - they are complete works in themselves,” adding that several of the songs have rarely been performed live. “I believe the only song not performed in concert is ‘A Venture’ from The Yes Album,” says Chris Squire. “And probably the most tricky of all the songs planned for this set is ‘Turn Of The Century’ from the Going For The One album.” Alan White believes “This is a great opportunity to show the growth of YES in these different eras - and to relive the memories of these times.”

The Yes Album is widely considered to be the band’s breakthrough album. Certified platinum, it features such signature songs as 'Yours Is No Disgrace' and 'I’ve Seen All Good People'. The band’s album Close To The Edge was on the U. charts for 32 weeks, peaking at #3. Going For The One went gold, hit #8 on the US chart and featured two singles, 'Wonderous Stories' (which hit #6) and the title track (#24).

“I think the 12-inch album is alive and well as reinforced by the rising interest in the analog format,” says Squire when asked about the album format in the singles-driven digital age. The album, says Howe, “has never totally gone away - there are those who completely understand."

Tickets can be purchased in advance. Moreover, YES is proud to provide special show packages, which include near-stage seating, a meet and greet with the band, exclusive limited-edition gifts from YES, and much more.

BUCKCHERRY TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘CONFESSIONS’ FEBRUARY 19, 2013 VIA CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS FREE DOWNLOAD OF FIRST SINGLE “GLUTTONY” AVAILABLE TODAY ONLY; DIGITAL SINGLE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT ITUNES TOMORROW (DECEMBER 11)

(Buckcherry photo by Stevie D.)

Multi-Platinum Los Angeles rock band Buckcherry will release their new CD Confessions February 19, 2013 via Century Media Records. “Gluttony”--the first single from the album--will be available for purchase through iTunes tomorrow (Tuesday, December 11). In the meantime, a free download of “Gluttony” is available today only (Monday, December 10) at www.centurymedia.com/specials/buckcherry.

Buckcherry just wrapped a string of UK dates and will headline North American shows in late December and January before joining Kid Rock as special guests on the upcoming “Rebel Soul” Tour beginning February 2 in Kansas City, MO. In addition, Buckcherry will co-headline Fremont Street Experience's Downtown Countdown New Year's Eve 2013 celebration in Las Vegas December 31.
While on tour, Buckcherry will preview new songs from Confessions, the band’s sixth studio album and first U.S. release for Century Media Records.

Confessions merges punk grit, gutter attitude, honest storytelling, and razor sharp hooks. The lyrics are tied together by the underlying theme of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Buckcherry continues to resonate because they're so unabashedly honest in their recordings and on stage. "It's a real rock 'n' roll band," says Nelson. "You get 100 percent of what we are and what we're about. We don't apologize for it."
Buckcherry--Josh Todd (vocals), Keith Nelson (guitar), Stevie D. (guitar), Jimmy Ashhurst (bass), Xavier Muriel (drums)--are one of the premier rock bands of the new millennium, having sold more than three million records in America alone and touring virtually non-stop, playing with everyone from AC/DC to Avenged Sevenfold, touring sold-out arenas alongside Nickelback and KISS, and headlining festivals ranging from the punk rock Ink-N-Iron (also featuring the Misfits and Pennywise) to Sturgis.

Additional dates have been added to the band’s run of headlining North American gigs.

The first pre-order for the new RIVERSIDE album is up (video/links)

Poland's progressive rockers RIVERSIDE have just completed their fifth studio album, SHRINE OF NEW GENERATION SLAVES, and are proud to announce the effort will see a North American release on February 5, 2013.   Out on longtime record label InsideOut Music, the album will also be available in Europe on January 21, 2013.

The first pre-order link is up at Burning Shed - Order HERE

Mariusz Duda explains the record's theme and title: "It's based on the fact that we all hear almost everyday from friends and close people how unhappy they are, how they hate their jobs, how they don't have a time for this or that, how time flies and how they actually feel like slaves in their lives. I thought it was a good option to write about that kind of unhappiness and this 'new generation slavery', where people seem to be unable to take control over their own lives."

SHRINE OF NEW GENERATION SLAVES was recorded at Serakos Studio in Warsaw, Poland, where Reality Dream Trilogy was also tracked.  Recorded with Magda Srzednicka and Robert Srzednicki, the album offers nearly an hour of classic RIVERSIDE music.

Vocalist Mariusz explains, "In 2012 we've been focusing on the work on the new album, and trying to prove, mostly to ourselves, that we can still surprise with something, and what's most important - create an album that would become our showpiece, music-wise and lyrics-wise.  The title might sound a bit intricate, but the acronym will definitely explain what we did with our music this time."

Fans can read about the album's recording process on the band's blog here, and a video interview that was done with RIVERSIDE directly from the studio can be seen here.

The artwork was designed by Travis Smith, who has done most of the album artwork for bands such as Opeth and Katatonia as well as the Avenged Sevenfold Nightmare cover, which many regarded as the best hard rock album cover of 2011.

SHRINE OF NEW GENERATION SLAVES is the follow up to the band's 2009 release, Anno Domini High Definition, which entered the Poland charts at #1 and has since hit gold album status.  In 2011, RIVERSIDE also released an EP titled Memories In My Head to celebrate the band's 10th anniversary.

RIVERSIDE Discography:
Out Of Myself - CD 2003
Voices In My Head - EP 2004
Second Life Syndrome - CD 2005
Rapid Eye Movement - CD 2007
Reality Dream - 2DVD/2CD 2008/2009
