SLASH speaks up for sharks (video)

SLASH recently filmed a spot for Shark Friendly Marinas in which he explains a new campaign to combat the slaughter of sharks and urges his fans to get involved. He says in the clip, "Recent data shows that over 100 million sharks are being killed a year. That's three sharks every second. That's unsustainable and it's not cool. We need sharks to have a healthy ocean. Please get involved by ending the harvest. Don't buy shark products, don't fish for sharks and if you happen to catch one, catch and release. Let it go."

Slash and Shark Friendly Marinas managing director Luke Tipple — who's also in the clip — urge viewers to visit the Shark Friendly Marinas web site for more information or to donate to the cause. Slash is a fierce advocate for animals and serves as a board member at the Los Angeles Zoo, for which he has also filmed several promo spots.

Happy Birthday FISH (video)

Derek William Dick, better known as Fish, (born April 25, 1958, Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland) is a Scottish singer, lyricist and occasional actor, best known as the former lead singer of the neo-progressive rock band Marillion.

Fish was educated at Dalkeith High School. He was inspired by the music of many of the rock artists of the late 1960s and early 1970s, including Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Yes, Van der Graaf Generator, The Kinks, T. Rex, David Bowie, Argent and The Alex Harvey Band. As well as his love for music, he was also a voracious reader, and his literary inspirations included Jack Kerouac, Truman Capote, Robert Burns and Dylan Thomas.
After working as a petrol pump attendant, gardener and forestry worker, Fish came to the public's attention in 1981 with the British rock group Marillion. The band achieved chart success in the UK, attaining top-ten hits in 1985 with "Kayleigh" and "Lavender", and again in 1987 with "Incommunicado". In 1988, Fish left Marillion in order to pursue his solo career. Many of Fish's later works contain lengthy spoken word lyrics, shorter examples of which can be heard on earlier Marillion albums. Vocally, Fish has sometimes been compared to Peter Gabriel, lead singer of Genesis in the 1970s. Music journalist David Hepworth described his voice as a “conflation of Roger Daltrey and Peter Gabriel”. Peter Hammill of Van der Graaf Generator was also a major influence on his songwriting and vocal delivery, which is especially notable on the first two Marillion albums.

According to Fish himself, his nickname originates from the amount of time he spent in the bathtub. Fish has one daughter, Tara.

FISH's albums:

1990: Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors
    1991: Internal Exile
    1993: Songs from the Mirror
    1994: Suits
    1997: Sunsets on Empire
    1999: Raingods with Zippos
    2001: Fellini Days
    2004: Field of Crows
    2007: 13th Star
    2013: Feast of Consequences

Help TWELVE FOOT NINJA create an epic! (video)

The dynamic Australian band TWELVE FOOT NINJA have already created some very tasty rock videos (see below) but they have a plan to make a real EPIC! So, they have started a fund-raising campaign and they are already more than half way there. You have to give them credit for originality!

From the band:

"Internet trolls aka keyboard warriors: their cyber bullying pollutes the Internet with the primary objective of bringing people down. We, Twelve Foot Ninja, are embarking on an ambitious music video project to play out the most extreme, fantastical retaliation story we could conjure! Aiding us in combating this contentious issue: U.S band Periphery, a 7ft stuffed brown bear and a Penthouse model (to name just a few).

Want to see it? Well we need your help to make it all happen!

If we had a dollar for every Facebook, Twitter or Youtube comment asking us to make another music video we could have paid off multiple music videos by now, hence this crowd funding campaign.

To make this concept a reality we will require more resources, more expertise, more crew, more special effects and more funding in order to make a truly EPIC music video. How EPIC? We're talking creating an actual troll using Lord of The Rings quality prosthetics, Quentin Tarantino quality gore, a fully choreographed fight scene, building props to smash, military grade weaponry, and if you can imagine...Mincing a troll into burger patties to be dowsed in mustard and ketchup and devoured by Periphery and Twelve Foot Ninja! Don't you think that would be satisfying!?"

Here is the link to the campaign: http://www.pozible.com/project/20103

AMORPHIS release "Hopeless Days" (video)

Finland's AMORPHIS released their latest album, Circle, April 19th in Europe and will unleash it on April 30th in North America on Nuclear Blast Records. Production and mixing duties for the follow-up to 2011's "The Beginning Of Times" were handled by Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN) who has previously worked with such bands as CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR.

Check out the video for "Hopeless Days":

AMORPHIS vocalist Tomi Joutsen says about the album: "The mystic, androgynous person on the cover represents a spiritual guide. This character was sent from another time and place to help the album's protagonist find a new path for his life."

"Circle" tracks:

01. Shades Of Gray
02. Mission
03. The Wanderer
04. Narrow Path
05. Hopeless Days
06. Nightbird's Song
07. Into The Abyss
08. Enchanted By The Moon
09. A New Day
10. Dead Man's Dream (bonus track)

The album's limited digibook edition features a bonus DVD containing: The Making Of "Circle" and Nightbird's Song (video clip)

Along with the CD+DVD digibook version, "Circle" will be available on CD (minus the bonus track), black 2LP in gatefold, brown 2LP in gatefold and as a huge limited box, including three bonus tracks and a wristband, exclusively via the Nuclear Blast online store.

Guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen said: "While promoting 'The Beginning Of Times', we started to feel that we were giving the same explanations over and over again when people asked about the studio process and how the songs came about. Even though the music was very strong, the making process didn't offer any surprises and appeared to be quite secured. Now the addition of a new dimension to the developing process has inspired us to focus on our material even more. The songs are extremely strong, bombastic and skull-pummelling."

In September 2010, Portnoy announced that he had left Dream Theater after 25 years. Since his departure, Portnoy has started two new projects. One is called Adrenaline Mob, a straight rock/metal band with Russell Allen, singer of Symphony X, and guitarist Mike Orlando. ALICE IN CHAINS live on Jimmy Kimmel (video)

ALICE IN CHAINS were the musical guests on last night's (Wednesday, April 10th) edition ABC-TV's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" The band performed three songs — "Stone", "Hollow" and "Man In The Box" — on the show's outdoor stage in front of a standing-room-only crowd. ALICE IN CHAINS' new album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here", is scheduled for release on May 28.

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, DEFTONES, RUSH). ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told Rolling Stone that the CD is "a unique record that's completely different from anything we ever did," adding, "The band is moving ahead in new territory that we haven't been to before, but we haven't lost our identity."

The Pulse Of Radio asked Cantrell to talk more about the band's evolution on its fifth studio effort. "The cool thing about record is it's a snapshot of time, of that group of individuals," he said. "And when you line up all of those records back to back, you can see where the band changes, evolves, you can maybe feel what they're going through, you know, and I think you could probably say that with all of our records. You can get a pretty good snapshot of what's going on there and, you know, we're in a different place now."
Cantrell told Revolver magazine that the title track's lyrics take on the beliefs of certain organized religions, saying, "What I've seen is the most basic message to most faith systems is in contradiction with how it gets applied . . . It always amazes me that some of the most hateful and hurtful things are done in the name of some sort of belief system."

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" is ALICE IN CHAINS' second with William DuVall on vocals. It follows up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years and first since the 2002 death of original singer Layne Staley.

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" track listing:

01. Hollow
02. Pretty Done
03. Stone
04. Voices
05. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
06. Lab Monkey
07. Low Ceiling
08. Breath On A Window
09. Scalpel
10. Phantom Limb
11. Hung On A Hook
12. Choke
