DEC BURKE Unveils New Band (video)

Very exciting news from the former vocalist and guitarist from Frost* and Darwin's Radio!!  Dec Burke has announced his new band, Alpha Flood, featuring: Kristoffer Gildenlow (ex Pain of Salvation), keyboardist Richard West (Threshold), guitarist Simon Andersson (Darkwater) and drummer Collin Leijenaar (Neal Morse Band).

In an interview with Prog Magazine, Dec had this to say about the new group:

Where did the name Alpha Flood come from?
Collin came up with it, and we all thought it was really cool, so we’ve run with it. It rolls off the tongue!

Has it taken a while to settle the lineup?
Having done my solo thing for the last two years, I wanted to put together a new band with some well-known musicians I admired. I asked Collin, and he said yes. Collin is turn asked Kris. I was friends with Simon and I asked him, and then we asked Richard West to complete the lineup.

What are your immediate plans?
Immediate plans are to get recording underway. We have a lot of material demoed up. The plan is to do a song and let people hear that, and at the same time record the album proper with a view of having that ready by early spring. We may have a little teaser available as early as December, all being well. As far a live shows go we would love to. We are speaking with promoters at the moment.

What’s the artistic intention with this outfit as opposed to previous ones?
The intention is simple: we want to write and record great songs that move us, and hopefully that in turn will move the listener in a positive way.

How do you expect the band dynamic to work – is there going to be a leader and followers or a democratic setup?
It’s very democratic – lots of opinions and ideas! But considering we’ve known each other for such a short time, it’s amazing how well we all get on. Everyone writes, so there’s a great pool of ideas. We’re already looking ahead to how we will approach a follow-up album… Mad!

What do you hope to achieve?
We want to deliver an album that has great songs and great performances from everyone, and a great production. So if we can achieve that it will be a great first step. Beyond that, it would be some live dates to get the word out there that Alpha Flood is here.
