Happy Birthday MIKE INEZ (video)

#mikeinez #aliceinchains #ozzyosbourne #rockfileradio
Mike Inez (born May 14, 1966) is an American rock musician best known for his role as the bassist of Alice in Chains. Inez has also worked with other popular musical acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Slash's Snakepit, Black Label Society and Heart.

Mike Inez began his career in music by playing guitar and saxophone. Since the late 1980s, his career has consisted of the role of bass guitarist in popular hard rock bands.
Ozzy Osbourne (1989–1993) In 1989, more than 50 musicians auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne's group, and Inez, then a member of the local L.A. band Skin On Skin, won the spot of bassist. Within a month, Inez was playing live at a gig with Osbourne at Wembley Stadium.

Inez was an official member of Ozzy Osbourne's band during their recording of the No More Tears album. However, Bob Daisley was brought in to record the bass and none of Inez's playing is on the final album. In the liner notes Inez was credited as "bass and music inspiration," as he had written the riff to the title track in a jam session. Inez also appeared on the 1993 Osbourne live album, Live & Loud.

By late 1993 Inez had moved on to his next project. Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr had left the group after the release of their album, Dirt, and Inez replaced him.

Inez toured throughout 1993 with Alice in Chains on the strength of the Dirt album. The group also participated in the 1993 Lollapalooza Tour. Alice in Chains' album, Jar of Flies, was released in 1994 with Inez on bass. Jar of Flies debuted at #1 on album sales charts, the first EP ever to do so.

Inez recorded with the band for their eponymous 1995 release Alice in Chains, which also debuted at #1. In 1996, Alice in Chains recorded their MTV Unplugged special, the first live performance the group had played together in three years. After their last live performance, Alice in Chains went on hiatus. Then in 1999 Alice in Chains returned to the studio to release the songs Get Born Again and Died. In 2000 the band went on hiatus once again, when rumors of vocalist Layne Staley's drug abuse arose. Alice in Chains disbanded on April 20, 2002 after the news of the death of Staley.

In 2005, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney reunited to perform a benefit concert in Seattle for victims of the tsunami disaster that struck South Asia in 2004.

By 2006 Inez, along with the surviving members of Alice in Chains, Jerry Cantrell and Sean Kinney, set for a world tour with various guest singers to fill in for the late Layne Staley. The main singer for the band's tour was William DuVall. The band was also featured on Decades of Rock: Heart and Friends where they performed "Would?" with Phil Anselmo and "Rooster" with William DuVall.

Alice in Chains released their fifth studio album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, May 2013.

Happy Birthday IAN ASTBURY (video)

#ianastbury #thecult #rockfileradio
Ian Robert Astbury (born 14 May 1962, Heswall, Merseyside) is an English rock musician and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist for the rock band The Cult.

Ian and his family moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1973 when he was 11 years old. He lived there for five years before moving back to the UK. His father worked at International Harvester and his mother was a bookkeeper. In his short time in the country, he developed a love for Canada and has stated in interviews that he will follow the Stanley Cup playoffs, especially if a Canadian team is playing.
In 1979, while living in Glasgow, he was deeply struck by The Doors song "The End", which he heard while watching the movie Apocalypse Now. He later described this as "a religious experience". In 1980 he was in Liverpool, where he was active on the punk scene based around Eric's Club. After he was made homeless due to a dispute with a landlord over a party at his bedsit apartment, he ended up following Anarchist Punk band Crass. After a period of living in squats and sleeping rough, he moved to Bradford in late 1980. Here he was a founding member of the positive punk band Southern Death Cult in 1981. Southern Death Cult lasted until March 1983, when it was dissolved. Along with guitarist Billy Duffy, bassist Jamie Stewart and drummer Raymond Taylor Smith, Astbury formed a new band, Death Cult, released the Death Cult (EP) and later dropped Death from the name to become The Cult.

The Cult are a Post Modern Rock band active since 1983. Their first album, Dreamtime was released in 1984, and followed by Love in 1985. Love featured the single "She Sells Sanctuary", which introduced them to an international audience. On their third album, Electric, The Cult made a transformation to hard rock sound with the help of Rick Rubin.
After the release of the 1989 album Sonic Temple, and the single "Fire Woman", Astbury relocated to Los Angeles, California. The Cult just announced plans to tour in late summer 2013 for the anniversary of the album, Electric.

Happy Birthday STEVE HOGARTH (video)

#stevehogarth #marillion #rockfileradio #progrock
Steve Hogarth (born Ronald Stephen Hoggarth on 14 May 1959 in Kendal, Westmorland) also known as "h", is the lead vocalist and occasional keyboardist/guitarist with the British rock band Marillion. Hogarth was formerly a keyboard player and co-lead vocalist with The Europeans and vocalist with How We Live.

In London, Hogarth joined a band called Motion Pictures, having responded to an advertisement in the music press. They were subsequently renamed The Europeans. Initially joining just as a keyboard player, Hogarth also ended up sharing the vocal duties with Ferg Harper. Signed to A&M Records, The Europeans released two studio albums and one live album. On the first studio album, Hogarth sang just one track. By the second studio album, he sang five of the eight tracks.

In 1985, Hogarth and guitarist Colin Woore left the band to form How We Live, the duo were signed to Columbia Records. In 1987, following record company changes, How We Live's debut album Dry Land was poorly promoted, resulting in a flop. Hogarth imagined he would have to leave the music industry - for a time seriously considering becoming a milkman or postman (as he later related) - but a meeting with his publishers (and a certain amount of matchmaking by long time friend, Darryl Way, sometime of Curved Air) persuaded him to send a tape to Marillion, who were recruiting for a new lead vocalist following the departure of Fish in late 1988.

Marillion
heard the tape and were interested enough to ask for a meeting with the singer. Later accounts of this first meeting record that Hogarth turned up at band member Pete Trewavas' house with his demo tapes contained in a red plastic fire bucket - the audition taking place in Trewavas' garage, due to the presence in the house of cats. The band were immediately impressed by his vocal prowess. Hogarth himself, however, took a little longer to make up his mind, holding as he did at the time a potentially lucrative offer to tour the U.S. on keyboards with The The. As he later recalled, he had a choice 'between joining the most hip band in the world at that time, or the least...'. In the end he accepted the Marillion gig, won over by the fact that the band wanted an equal partner; who would input their own ideas.
Hogarth's first album with the band, released in September 1989, was Seasons End, their fifth studio album. Since then, Marillion have recorded another twelve albums with Hogarth on vocals, the most recent being entitled Sounds That Can't Be Made released in September 2012.

Hogarth has also released one solo studio album under the name 'h' called Ice Cream Genius. This album had contributions from ex-Japan/ Porcupine Tree synthesiser/keyboard maestro Richard Barbieri, former XTC guitarist Dave Gregory, Blondie drummer Clem Burke, bassist Chucho Merchan and percussionist Luis Jardim.

In 2012 Hogarth joined forces with Richard Barbieri again, releasing an album as a duo called Not the weapon but the hand.
