Happy Birthday JEFFREY HAMMOND (video)

#jeffreyhammond #jethrotull #rockfileradio
Jeffrey Hammond (born 30 July 1946, Blackpool) sometimes credited as Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond, is a musician and former bass guitar player for the progressive rock band Jethro Tull.

Hammond adopted the name "Hammond-Hammond" as a joke, since both his father's name and mother's maiden name were the same. He also joked in interviews that his mother defiantly chose to keep her maiden name, just like Eleanor Roosevelt.
One of several band members from Blackpool, England, he met band leader Ian Anderson in school when he was 17 years old, eventually joining a band with Anderson and future Jethro Tull members John Evan and Barriemore Barlow. After leaving Grammar School, he opted to study painting rather than continue with music, but he was convinced to join Jethro Tull in January 1971. During the time of Tull's dramatic stage costumes, Jeffrey started wearing a black and white striped suit and played a matching bass guitar, and this became his trademark and a feature of Tull's Thick as a Brick stage performance. Hammond burned the suit in December 1975 on his departure from the band.

Hammond played on the following albums:

Aqualung (1971)
Thick as a Brick (1972)
Living in the Past (compilation, 1972)
A Passion Play (1973)
War Child (1974)
Minstrel in the Gallery (1975)

He then left the band to continue his career in art. According to Ian Anderson's sleevenotes for the 2002 reissue of Tull's Minstrel in the Gallery, Hammond "returned to his first love, painting, and put down his bass guitar, never to play again."

Happy Birthday JACOBY SHADDIX (video)

#jacobyshaddix #paparoach #rockfileradio
Jacoby Dakota Shaddix (born July 28, 1976) is an American songwriter and lead singer for the rock band Papa Roach, as well as the lead singer for the unofficially defunct post-hardcore band Fight the Sky under the pseudonym 'John Doe.' Shaddix was also the host of MTV show Scarred in 2007.
Jacoby Shaddix is the founding member of Papa Roach. He formed the band with former drummer Dave Buckner, bassist Will James, and guitarist Ben Luther, in 1991. Ben was replaced by current guitarist Jerry Horton, Tobin Esperance replacing Will James following his departure. Dave Buckner's role was filled by Tony Palermo, leaving Jacoby the only original member in the band. The band's name Papa Roach, derives from Shaddix' step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, who went by the nickname 'Papa Roach'. Howard committed suicide in 2006 following a diagnosis with an unspecified form of advanced stage cancer. The song 'Roses On My Grave' was written in his memory. Before releasing their major label debut album Infest, Papa Roach recorded and published an EP in 1994 entitled 'Potatoes For Christmas'. In 1997, their first full-length album, entiltled Old Friends from Young Years, was released.
Shaddix stopped using rapping in later Papa Roach songs. In an interview in 2004, Shaddix said that he became disenchanted with hip hop and what it represented in the media and stated that "I just want to be a rocker". However, in 2012, Jacoby Shaddix started rapping again in the album The Connection, and even stated that it felt good to be rapping again.

Happy Birthday GREGG GIUFFRIA (video)

#gregggiufria #angel #giuffria #houseoflords #rockfileradio
Gregg Giuffria (born 28 July 1951) is an American rock musician and businessman. He was the keyboardist for AOR bands Angel, House of Lords and Giuffria.

Giuffria is originally from Gulfport, Mississippi, graduating from high school in 1969. A talented keyboardist, he moved to the US West Coast where in the mid 1970s he joined Angel. After the band broke up in 1981 Giuffria put together his own band, Giuffria, with vocalist David Glen Eisley, guitarist Craig Goldy, bassist Chuck Wright, and drummer Alan Krigger, and achieved some success with their first eponymous album and first single "Call To The Heart," which made the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band broke up after the commercial failure of their next album "Silk and Steel" in 1986.

Giuffria then put together the House of Lords with the help of Kiss' Gene Simmons and signed to Simmons' label. The first album House of Lords, was released in 1988 and experienced a modest amount of commercial success with the single "I Wanna Be Loved". However, this success was not consolidated as the band were unwilling to tour.

However, Simmons decided there was enough potential to warrant the release of a second album, and in 1990 the band released Sahara. The album reached #120 on the Biilboard charts and in the wake of the successful single "Can't Find My Way Home" (a Blind Faith cover) was certified platinum in 1991.

A final album Demons Down, was released for the Japanese market in 1992. The band broke up in 1993. House of Lords has since reunited, but without Giuffria, although he does appear on their 2006 release World Upside Down as a guest keyboardist. Gregg worked on a solo album with an expected release in 2006, but as Hurricane Katrina wiped out his business ventures in Biloxi, it is uncertain when the solo project will ever be released.

Gregg was also the CEO of the Las Vegas based Outland Development LLC, that designed and built gaming machines and theme park attractions, and was president of casino operator Full House Resorts from 1998 to 2000. He is also co-owner of the Biloxi Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, along with partners Roy Anderson III and David Ross. Gregg now lives in California.

Steven J. "Steve" Morse (born 28 July 1954) is an American guitarist and composer, best known as the founder of the Dixie Dregs; and since 1994, the guitar player of Deep Purple. Morse's career has encompassed rock, country, funk, jazz, classical, and fusion of these musical genres. In addition to his successful solo career, he was briefly a member of Kansas in the mid 1980s.
After the 1983 breakup of the Dregs, Morse then formed The Steve Morse Band, a trio with bassist Jerry Peek and drummer Doug Morgan (formerly a member of Glass Moon). After the first tour of the eastern United States, Morgan left for previous commitments. Everyone's choice to replace Morgan (including Doug's) was Rod Morgenstein. They began recording The Introduction in September. The group toured Germany in early 1984 with Morse conducting clinics, and the group was signed by Elektra Records, who released The Introduction mid-year. A second German tour began in December 1984 and Stand Up was released in 1985. This effort included guest vocalists and guitarists (Eric Johnson, Alex Ligertwood, Peter Frampton, Albert Lee, Van Temple), and violinist Mark O'Connor. He toured with Rush as a main opener on their Power Windows tour.

In 1986, Morse joined the rock group Kansas. While with the band, they released two albums, Power and In the Spirit of Things. While he was with the band, Kansas had its last big hit, "All I Wanted," which reached the Billboard Top 20 and on which Morse received co-writing credit. Morse left the band after touring behind the latter album. He re-joined the band for part of their 1991 tour.

From late 1987 to early 1988, Morse worked as a commercial airline co-pilot
In 1994, Morse joined the British hard rock group Deep Purple, replacing Ritchie Blackmore (though Joe Satriani replaced Blackmore for The Battle Rages On tour). Since then, Morse has played on five studio albums Purpendicular, Abandon, Bananas, Rapture of the Deep and Now What?!, as well as seven of their live albums.

In 2011, Morse formed Flying Colors, an American supergroup composed of Mike Portnoy, Dave LaRue, Casey McPherson and Neal Morse, whose debut eponymous album was released on 26 March 2012, and debuted at No. 9 on Billboard's Hard Rock chart, and No. 11 on the BBC's Rock Album charts.

Happy Birthday SIMON KIRKE (video)

#simonkirke #free #badcompany #rockfileradio
Simon Frederick St. George Kirke (born 28 July 1949) is an English rock drummer best known as a member of Free and Bad Company.
Kirke was born in Lambeth, South London, England, the son of Olive May and Vivian Percy Kirke. He spent his early years living in the countryside of Wales. Leaving school at 17, he returned to London and set about finding a drumming job in the booming blues scene. After a fruitless 22 months he was resigned to returning to the country when he met Paul Kossoff who was playing in a band called Black Cat Bones. Kirke was offered the drumming position in the band for which he played for six months.

Kirke and Paul Kossoff left the band and with Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser formed Free. In the four years Free were together they had an enormous influence on many bands on both sides of the Atlantic. Their biggest hit, "All Right Now", was a number one in more than 20 territories and was acknowledged by ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) in 1990 as having received more than 1,000,000 radio plays in the US by late 1989. In 2000 an award was given to Paul Rodgers by the British Music Industry when "All Right Now" passed 2,000,000 radio plays in the UK.
After the disbanding of Free in 1973, Kirke and Rodgers again teamed up to form Bad Company. They were joined by guitarist Mick Ralphs (Mott the Hoople) and bassist Boz Burrell (King Crimson).

After Bad Company disbanded in 1982, Kirke was briefly involved with another band, Wildlife. Wildlife toured in support of the Michael Schenker Band around this time in the UK; their album was produced by former Bad Company bandmate Ralphs, and it also featured Kirke playing saxophone on one track entitled 'Charity'. Despite being signed to Led Zeppelin's label, Swan Song, and Kirke's high-profile involvement, the album failed to sell. Wildlife's core members, brothers Chris and Steve Overland went onto greater success with the band FM. Kirke returned to Bad Company when the band reformed in 1986.

Happy Birthday RICK DAVIES (video)

#rickdavies #supertramp #rockfileradio
Richard "Rick" Davies (born 22 July 1944, in Swindon, Wiltshire, England) is an English musician, best known as the founder and keyboardist of progressive rock band Supertramp. Davies is the only member of Supertramp to have been with the group for their entire history, and has composed many of their most well-known songs, including "Goodbye Stranger", "Bloody Well Right", "My Kind of Lady", and "Cannonball". He is generally noted for his sophisticated blues and jazz-influenced progressive rock compositions and cynical lyrics.
Starting with Indelibly Stamped in 1971, Davies shared lead vocals with Supertramp songwriting partner, Roger Hodgson until the latter's departure in 1983, at which point he became the sole lead vocalist of the group. Davies's voice is more distinctly masculine than Hodgson's, and he usually employs a raspy baritone which stands in stark contrast to his bandmate's childlike tenor. However, he occasionally sings in a falsetto which superficially resembles Hodgson's vocals, such as on "Goodbye Stranger" and "My Kind of Lady". He also plays harmonica for the group.
